Originating from weak spots in the mouth of an enormous collapsed crater, these smoking sulphurous vapours have an unpleasant, penetrating odour. Water in the craters, blackened by iron sulphate still maintains a temperature of 171 ° Centigrade or 340 ° Fahrenheit. The sulphur springs is where the Soufriere volcano releases pressure.
